Also according the Dayton Library, the late Ernie Bickerstaff was editor at that time, with co-publishers Bryan Keith and Daryl Young. Beginning in 1994, Defender, was published by Sirius Enterprises, Inc., [Lavera Floyd, Loretta Floyd, Glenn (Prince) Floyd, Jr., and Lisa Deloris Floyd-Jefferson].  It was a Huber Heights-based, family-owned business that served the Greater Dayton, Ohio area.

Defender created the annual Brother-to-Brother, Sister-to-Sister Entrepreneur Conference for children ranging from age 4-years-old to 17-years-old.
